Ben-Hur Review

Ben Hur is one of the greatest movies of all time. It’s a story that plays like a novel (cause it’s based on one). Charlton Heston (Judah Ben Hur) is great in the movie. Ben Hur has some of the best action ever and as a story can’t hardly be beat. It’s drama at its best. It’s the story of a family that had it all, was destroyed and then given their lives back. Ben Hur depicts both the best and worst of the Roman Empire, its glory and progress and the oppression of the less fortunate who lived under its rule. First, the scene on the galley where the slaves are put through a grueling, forced rowing of their ship under the eye of General Quintus Arrius. The way that scene builds with the alternating of the camera from the slaves to the drums to the general, all the while picking up the pace, is quite riveting. Second, the chariot race. Some of the best action ever produced by Hollywood. Continue reading Ben-Hur (1959 – Free Download) English DVD-RIP

Persona (1966 – Free Download) Swedish DVD-RIP

85 Min. | Drama – Thriller | December 1966

IMDB Rating: 8.1

Director: Ingmar Bergman

Starring: Bibi Andersson, Liv Ullmann, Margaretha Krook

Persona Review

Persona may well be Ingmar Bergman’s most complex film-yet, like many Bergman films, the story it tells is superficially simple. Actress Elizabeth Volger has suddenly stopped speaking in what appears to be an effort to cease all communication with the external world. She is taken to a hospital, where nurse Alma is assigned to care for her. After some time, Elisabeth’s doctor feels the hospital is of little use to her, the doctor accordingly lends her seaside home to Elisabeth, who goes there with Alma in attendance. Although Elisabeth remains silent, the relationship between the women is a pleasant one-until a rainy day, too much alcohol, and Elisabeth’s silence drives Alma into a series of highly charged personal revelations. Wild Tales (2014 – Free Download) Spanish DVD-RIP

IMDB Rating: 8.1

Director: Damián Szifrón

Starring: Darío Grandinetti, María Marull, Mónica Villa

Wild Tales Review

If ordinary films are like novels, this one is like an exquisite collection of short stories. Wild Tales is divided into six segments, each with its own plot and character development. Director Damian Szifron is like a modern-day Guy de Maupassant, telling each story with meticulous accuracy, carefully measuring out each twist, detail and conversation. The segments are hilarious and over the top, but at the same time satirical and somehow realistic – the extreme events could happen to any of us. That’s why Wild Tales is such a great film, its shows the darkest side of human nature and of Argentinian society, but in such a way that it makes you smile. The 400 Blows (1959 – Free Download) French DVD-RIP

99 Min. | Crime – Drama | December 1959

IMDB Rating: 8.1

Director: François Truffaut

Starring: Jean-Pierre Léaud, Albert Rémy, Claire Maurier

The 400 Blows Review

The 400 Blows is all about simplicity, but that doesn’t stop it from being a masterpiece. Many times the most simple things are the best. Simplicity is often the right road to go far. François Truffaut must have directed The 400 Blows with all his dedication, heart and soul. It’s realistic, touching, sensitive and human. It does a very good job in showing the existence’s crisis faced by the teenagers, as well as showing how hard life can be in that complex phase of life. It also feels very nostalgic for many reasons, but it would take me forever to number them here. Continue reading The 400 Blows (1959 – Free Download) French DVD-RIP
