Race Gurram Review: Race Gurram (Race Gurram) is an entertaining movie, if you enter the auditorium with a clear mindset that you are going to watch a comic film and not a movie which takes itself too seriously. The best part of the movie is it is the first time ever that a major telugu star has underplayed his role in the climax sequences and let comedian Brahamandam take center stage and letting character actor Rajeev Kanakala do something which is unthinkable in a telugu motion picture. Allu Arjun is an actor who tries to offer variety in his every film. His comedy timing in this film is impeccable. His acting chops have been very much improved in emotional and confrontation scenes. Overall his ‘tour-de-force’ performance is the major highlight of the entire film. Sruthi didn’t had a big role to perform but her glamor added enough color to the film.
Ravi Kishan as an antagonist was very good but his character took a big steep in the second half turning him into a comedy villain that every Telugu film offers. Ali repeated his character from ‘Kick’. Brahmanandam enters into the scene in the later half as ‘Kill Bill Pandey’. He then took the film to a whole new level taking a peak in entertainment quotient. Shaam as police office Ram did justice to his character. Surender Reddy is a director known for his style rather than the subject. But ‘Kick’ changed the game when it had a surprise element apart from the entertainment. Race Gurram lacks that surprise element in it. He should have dealt the villainy better to make things difficult for our hero. But he succeeded in his prime department ‘comedy’. Most of the film has his trade mark comedy cameos to entertain the viewers keeping them attached to the film. Story by Vakkantam Vamsi was routine and lacks quality but it had scope to include comedy thanks to the actors.
Cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa was an asset for the film. The color tone of Race Gurram is different from love scenes to action sequences that looked very adequate to each emotion. Songs have been poorly pictured and they come as speed breakers to the film. Background score by Thaman was good and he elevated the heroism very well. Editing was ok but some scenes should have been chopped to keep the tempo of the film since the run time is hefty. What should have been a powerful mass entertainer turned into a hilarious comedy entertainer thanks to Brahmanandam. But fans of Bunny who expect his kind of versatility and dances will be disappointed a bit. Others can comfortably watch and even enjoy Race Gurram.
