Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Review

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is interesting that a film Midnight Cowboy about a street hustler managed to beat out a western about a couple of real western characters for Best Picture of 1969. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is simply one of the best westerns ever made, it’s got wit, and charm, and will get you positively infectious in your enthusiasm for it. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid has the incomparable team of Paul Newman and Robert Redford. George Roy Hill the director had a stroke of inspirational genius teaming the two of them. They both play a different character. Butch Cassidy is the amiable thinker and planner for the Hole in the Wall gang. Outlaw that he is Paul Newman is so charming in the role you have to root for him. He’s a guy who thinks fast on his feet. Note what happens right at the beginning of the film when Ted Cassidy, best known for being Lurch the butler on the Addams Family challenges him for the gang leadership. Come and See (1985 – Free Download) Russian DVD-RIP

142 Min. | Drama – War | October 1985

IMDB Rating: 8.3

Director: Elem Klimov

Starring: Aleksey Kravchenko, Olga Mironova, Liubomiras Laucevicius

Come and See Review

Come and See, one of the greatest of all war films, Klimov’s stunning work stands amongst such works in which the horror and sorrow of conflict are made fresh over again for the viewer, left to stumble numb from the cinema thereafter. Produced for the 40th anniversary of Russia’s triumph over the German invaders in WW2, based upon a novella by a writer who was a teenage partisan during the war, the propagandist use to which it was later put – when the GDR was still in the Eastern Bloc, citizens were forced to watch this to warn them of another rise of fascism – does not impair its effect today at all. It echoes intensity found in another masterpiece by the director. Klimov’s shorter Larissa (1980) is a remorseful elegy to his late wife. Sunrise (1927 – Free Download) English DVD-RIP

94 Min. | Drama – Romance | November 1927

IMDB Rating: 8.3

Director: F.W. Murnau

Starring: George O’Brien, Janet Gaynor, Margaret Livingston

Sunrise Review

While some film critics disagreed in the late fifties, giving the nod to Murnau’s equally brilliant “Last Laugh,” this in my view is the crowning achievement of the German genius. Many polls rank it as the greatest silent film ever made and many rank it very high on the all time list of great movies. The plot is melodramatic, the acting in places heavy handed, and the action seemingly non-existent, at least in the eyes of the “Terminator 3” generation, yet “Sunrise” is so captivating a film that it can be watched over and over again and deliver the same punch every time. In fact, like the other greats, including “Citizen Kane,” you can probably get something new out of “Sunrise” every time you watch it, no matter how many times you watch. A Beautiful Mind (2001 – Free Download) English DVD-RIP

A Beautiful Mind Review

John Nash is something of a mathematical wizard. Constantly searching for something with which to make his name, he finds his calling by code breaking for the government. But with that comes a sense of paranoia and pretty soon John is sliding desperately into schizophrenia. There is a school of thought that says any decent film about the mentally ill or afflicted is a sure fire way to attract the awards givers. Personally it bothers me that it bothers me that people view these films in this demeaning manner. If a story is worth telling then lets get it out there for all to see. Would the cinema world and all those stuffy film lovers really be happy if film makers didn’t tell these remarkable stories? Continue reading A Beautiful Mind (2001 – Free Download) English DVD-RIP
