Ben-Hur Review

Ben Hur is one of the greatest movies of all time. It’s a story that plays like a novel (cause it’s based on one). Charlton Heston (Judah Ben Hur) is great in the movie. Ben Hur has some of the best action ever and as a story can’t hardly be beat. It’s drama at its best. It’s the story of a family that had it all, was destroyed and then given their lives back. Ben Hur depicts both the best and worst of the Roman Empire, its glory and progress and the oppression of the less fortunate who lived under its rule. First, the scene on the galley where the slaves are put through a grueling, forced rowing of their ship under the eye of General Quintus Arrius. The way that scene builds with the alternating of the camera from the slaves to the drums to the general, all the while picking up the pace, is quite riveting. Second, the chariot race. Some of the best action ever produced by Hollywood. Continue reading Ben-Hur (1959 – Free Download) English DVD-RIP

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928 – Free Download) French DVD-RIP

110 Min. | Biography – Drama – History | October 1928

IMDB Rating: 8.3

Director: Carl Theodor Dreyer

Starring: Maria Falconetti, Eugene Silvain, André Berley

The Passion of Joan of Arc Review

Carl Th. Dreyer’s The Passion of Joan of Arc was made, perhaps, years ahead of its time – my guess would be that if it wasn’t burned after its initial release, it would’ve had as stunning an impact on the film world years down the line as Citizen Kane did. Though the use of close – ups and distorted angles were not completely new in The Passion of Joan of Arc, it felt like Dreyer was creating a new kind of cinema, one where reality, however cold and pitiful, was displayed with complete sincerity. There is also the editing, which has the timing that many directors/editors of the modern day could only hope to achieve, and those moves with the camera by Rudolph Mate that are precious – to call his work on the film extraordinary is an understatement. The Elephant Man (1980 – Free Download) English DVD-RIP

124 Min. | Biography – Drama | October 1980

IMDB Rating: 8.2

Director: David Lynch

Starring: Anthony Hopkins, John Hurt, Anne Bancroft

The Elephant Man Review

The Elephant Man is truly a moving story that is earnest and throughout the film, it makes the point that humans are not animals, no matter the dysfunctions or handicaps. In the case of John Merrick, he is revolting to look at because of an terrible accident, but he makes clear to all the people wanting to use him or gape at him, he is a human just like the rest of them. No matter who you are, it will be impossible not to cry at some point. That’s how emotionally-affecting The Elephant Man film is. Wild Strawberries Review

In Wild Strawberries, the Swedish Professor Isak Borg embarks on a journey to Lund in order to receive an award for lifelong achievement in the medical field. After his house maid refuses to go with him (“We’re not married!”) he finds his daughter-in-law (Bibi Andersson) inviting herself along. Little does he know that she holds a great contempt for her father-in-law and is only accompanying him as a way of easily confronting him and expressing her true feelings. Painfully wounded by the prospect of his own daughter-in-law hating him, Borg begins to reflect upon his life in a series of visions, flashbacks and hazy dream sequences.
